Evaluation
What I did was take lots of
different iconic images from pulp fiction and developed on them in a way
inspired by Saul Bass until they were ready to be animated. I looked into Saul Bass’s work thouroghly and
studied his iconic and simplistic style In this
assignment I learnt how to use flash for animation for the first time and about
Saul Bass’s work. If I could go back and improve something I would make the
drawings on my animation slightly more detailed and smooth looking and perhaps
try out some different techniques instead of just frame-by-frame animation and
tweening. The thing that interests me the most about Saul Bass’s style is the
interesting colour combinations he uses as his logic with colour is very
similar to my own in which I try to limit myself to 3 or 4 colours that
slightly clash but not entirely e.g., Green and Red.
I found making a decent
amount of animation easy as I work quickly at drawing and most of it was frame
by frame. I also feel I am good at coming up with abstract transitions for my
animation to keep it interesting. However I found a lot of the technical side
of this unit challenging as I have never been required to use macs before over
PC. It has been a steep learning curve for me as it takes me a lot longer to
learn logical things than other people and I have a very short attention span.
I think that my work ethic
for this project has been very good, this is the most motivated I have been for
almost 3 years and I enjoy most of the tasks given. However, I often end up
doing assigned work at home in the middle of the night before it is required to
be handed in so I need to work on being more punctual with my work and sleep
better so I can focus more in the day. Overall I would grade myself a 6 out of
10 as I feel I have made a lot of improvement in many of my skills but still
have a long way to go.
